Resume

A founder of Gertler & Wente Architects in 1985, Mr. Gertler has directed numerous design and construction projects that include a wide variety of educational, institutional, healthcare, commercial, retail, and residential projects. He takes pride taking an uncomplicated approach to the design of his projects: he enjoys and carefully listens to each client, and as a result completely understands their needs. Distinguished design stems from thoroughly identifying and appreciating the issues of each individual client and each an individual project. His approach to common sense problem solving began with his education from Rutgers University completing a dual major in Civil Engineering and Economics. His architectural education from City College of NY served to encourage the creative thought process and unify it with the analytical part. While problem solving is the essence of both engineering and architecture, the approach to solving them is very different. But make no mistake about it; the more creative field of architecture is Jeff’s passion.

Mr. Gertler’s diverse skills are exemplified by his varied client base that include educational clients (ie.- Rutgers University, multiple CUNY colleges, St. John’s University), healthcare clients (ie.- NY Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University Health Sciences, NYU Langone Medical Center, and Mt. Sinai Medical Center), institutional clients (ie.- Fort Tryon Jewish Center, Shaare Zion Synagogue, Consulate of Finland), and commercial clients (ie.- Shorenstein Properties, Trinity Real Estate, Federal Express, Oracle Corporation). Mr. Gertler often provides consultation to building owners, real estate brokers, tenants and colleagues on numerous aspects of real estate, construction and project management. He has been published for articles regarding building renovations, the landlord-tenant work letter and public lobby renovations. He has served multiple owners and private boards assisting and organizing their selection of construction owners reps, contractors, and even architects.

Always looking to get involved, Mr. Gertler’s volunteer work includes serving as a Board Trustee and member of the Real Estate Committee for the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services. He previously served as a Board Member for Ittleson Center, a care and treatment center for young children, as a Board Member for Kaplan House, a center for emotionally troubled young men, and on the Volunteer Committee for the UJA. In his hometown of Madison N.J., he serves on the Planning Board, the Environmental Commission, served on the Open Space and Recreation Commission and Madison Parking Garage Commission and was vice chairman of the Madison Historical Preservation Commission. He also found time to coach youth baseball and football teams.

Mr. Gertler is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and an ex-member of the New York State Association of Architects and New York Society of Architects. As an active member in the AIA, he was chairman of the Professional Practice Committee. Mr. Gertler served on the Advisory Committee of the Downtown New York Streetscape Project. Certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, he is registered in New York, New Jersey, Wyoming, Florida, Massachusetts and Nevada.
