Gertler & Wente Architects was hired to design an expansion to the Yaddo campus to include two 600 s.f. multi-disciplinary studio spaces, and two living spaces. Clustered around a new central courtyard the three structures anchor the buildings to their wooded site set at the edge of a hill overlooking three spring-fed ponds.
The studios are intended to support visual artists, sculptors, choreographers, and musicians. North light is brought in through a wall of glass facing the ponds. A large movable partition allow for the space to be divided by the artist.
Exterior materials include recycled steel sheets used for road repairs, and painted plaster interiors.
