Yaddo Artist Colony

Saratoga Springs, NY

This expansion to the Yaddo campus included two 600-square-foot multi-disciplinary studio spaces, as well as two living spaces. Clustered around a new central courtyard, the three structures anchor the buildings to their wooded site, set at the edge of a hill overlooking three spring-fed ponds.

The studios are intended to support visual artists, sculptors, choreographers, and musicians. North light is brought in through a glass wall facing the ponds. A large movable partition allows for the space to be divided by the artist.

Exterior materials included recycled steel sheets used for road repairs, and painted plaster interiors.
