9/11 Memorial Plaza Security Design

Gertler & Wente’s work at the 9/11 Memorial Plaza included the design of the secure, offsite visitors’ check-in plaza, the security screening area (including a separate check-in for family and friends of the victims), and the 9/11 Memorial retail space. Additionally, Gertler & Wente designed the perimeter barricade/entry security system for the entire Memorial Plaza.
We worked closely with the NYC Police Counter Terrorism Unit, Port Authority Police, Mayor’s Office, NYC Landmarks Commission, NYC Building Department, NYC DOT and State DOT, and the 9/11 Museum and Memorial Commission to achieve the successful opening of the plaza on the tenth anniversary, 9/11/2011.
