INN at irving place
New york, NY

This project involved the restoration and adaptive reuse of two of the oldest buildings in the Gramercy Park area of Manhattan. Two 1830's townhouses were converted into a small twelve-room hotel, tearoom and bar. New stoops and railings to match originals were installed; the cornices were repaired and windows replaced.  The interior restoration included all new services (plumbing, electrical, high speed data wiring, sprinkler, and fire safety); new steel for floor and roof framing throughout. The interior rooms were restored to their original proportions, new moldings to match existing remnants were installed throughout, period fireplace mantles were installed in the seventeen fireplace openings. Furnishings and finishes were selected by Gertler & Wente Architects and include a mixture of styles and include Eastlake, American Empire and Victorian Pieces refurbished and re-upholstered.
