Gertler & Wente Architects was asked to design a bar/lounge occupying what had been basement space below the Inn at Irving Place. A low 7' 6" ceiling was resolved by carving three gilded oval domes into the ceiling framing, demarcating the three main seating areas. Each dome is lit by custom cast glass chandeliers. A sinuously curved bar runs the length of the space and includes a custom black and white tile ‘frieze’ abstracting images of Gramercy Park area landmarks. A small serene exterior garden was created and landscaped using bamboo.
